10 Way To Reuse It: Dryer Lint
Ok. This week was kind of fun. I seriously never thought dryer lint had even one use, I mean come on, it’s LINT for crying out loud. But I was standing in the shower wracking my brain this week for something that most people don’t even think twice about, something I have an abundance of, something I could save from it’s garbage can grave. And now I give you 10 ideas that, even if you don’t

Walmart Sales Slow, But Urban Warfare Quickens
It’s been a rough year for Walmart.
The giant retailer just announced its worst net sales increase in history—just a 1% increase over 2009. But its drive to expand markets into urban areas is not slowing down one bit.
Walmart’s net sales grew by only $3.9 billion in 2010, one-seventh of the $27.3 billion in net sales increase the company experienced in 2009. Between 2006 and 2009, Walmart’s net sales growth has averaged 9.3%. By contrast, the 1% sales growth announced in the company’s 2010 Annual Report has got to have investors nervous.
The implosion of sales growth only makes Walmart more determined to push into more lucrative markets abroad—but also into urban markets in America.
Walmart is waging two urban guerilla wars simultaneously—one in Chicago, the other in New York City. Never before has a retailer had to resort to such intense efforts to build a store.
DVD Kiosk in the Grocery Store
Outside of almost every convenient store and grocery store chain, there’s a DVD kiosk such as Redbox or DVDPlay. These DVD kiosks for $1 per rental, per day is convenient to shoppers who are able to buy groceries and get a movie all in a single trip. Many of these kiosks are located outside but for some reason, our DVD kiosk is located inside the store. Which means they only operate within store hours and if our store closes at midnight, customers are unable to rent or return movies until the store opens. Some customers like to take their time searching through the catalog of movies but if there’s a line, one must be courteous to the people behind them. One also has to be courteous to the store hours as well because it’s not OK to take your time looking for a movie when the store is closing.
After several store closing announcements a couple is still deciding on what movie to get…
Rami the Security Guard: Hey, you have to leave the store is closed.
Uncourteous Couple: Hang on.
Rami the Security Guard: Sorry. Store is closed. You have to leave.
Uncourteous Couple: Hang on.
Rami calls for me to deal with the situation because he is unable to physically remove them because of store policy.
Me: Hi guys, the store is closed and we’re locking up.
The didn’t flinch or look at me. They kept their eyes on the kiosk screen.
Uncourteous Couple: Hang on.
Me: I’m serious, you have to leave.
The just ignored me and it would be pointless to call the police because by the time they would have arrived, these two would be gone. So Rami and I stood there waiting for them to finish.
Uncourteous Couple: HAHAHAHA… that movie is pretty funny! HAHAHAHAH..
With no regards to us, I went to the back of the machine…
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
RAAAAAWRRRR!!!!!!
I’m making my best impression to yell and shake the machine as if I’m trying to unplug it.
Uncourteous Couple: What are you crazy!
Rami the Security Guard: Pau! Pau!
I stopped what I was doing and looked at Rami.
Rami the Security Guard: They left! Good job!
Me: You like that?
Rami nods with approval.
Me: Let’s go home man.
GCC Shopping Round Up
So, I have this great recipe for French Dip Sandwiches on my menu this week but when I went to find the 4 lb boneless chuck roast (which is the cheapest cut you can get) I nearly lost it in the grocery store. It was a good 20 bucks worth of meet! I seriously considered throwing caution to the wind and just tossing it in my cart anyway. But, I just couldn’t do it. I was going to go with a

Menu Plan Monday
I wrapped up some commitments last week so I’m looking forward to a little more free time to get my veggie starts in the ground and spend a little more time in the kitchen. I already planted my potatoes and walla walla sweets but it’s time to get those beans and herbs in the ground and get the tomatoes used to the outside weather rather than the climate controlled bay window they’ve gotten used
Enchanted Woodland Wedding
My dear friend, Jennifer, got married yesterday. She comissioned me to make 5 orange silk dresses for the wedding. Each of the girls designed their own gowns for me to interpret in cloth. Jennifer is a talented architect and designer. Everything she touches is gorgeous. I have to admit, when I heard her color scheme of orange, robin egg blue, and lime green, I was a bit curious. At the wedding, there were a pair of live love birds snuggling on the guest book table. Guess what colors they were? Yep, Now it all makes sense.
Walking to the Rehearsal Dinner
Outdoor dining at Piropos in Weston, MO for the rehearsal dinner. The food was amazing, the view gorgeous and the company unsurpassed.
The inside of the Red Barn on Red Barn Farm. Jennifer transformed it into a breathtaking reception hall.
The bride and groom stood in the center looking out over the orchard to say their vows.

Lemon Blueberry Cookies
My mother-in-law shared again. This time it was 40 half pints of bluberries. I dipped them in boiling water to split the skin and put them in the dehydrator. They dried very slowly because it is so humid here. But the cloudy overcast weather is perfect for filtered outdoor picture taking.
2 sticks of butter softened
2 cups of sugar
2 eggs
zest from 1 lemon
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups rolled oats
2 cups dried blueberries
(If I had them I would have added 1 cup of white chips)
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and zest and blend well. Sprinkle in salt, baking soda and flour stirring until just combined. Mix in oats and blueberries. Drop by teaspoonful on greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes. Share with a child
. Makes 5 dozen.

Invisible Zipper Trick
As part of my organization streak, I emptied my mending basket. The mending included replacing an invisible zipper in a store bought skirt. Invisible zippers are the easiest kind to put in, but I really dislike the cheap plastic feet that are sold next to them. Mine slid all around and made for a really sloppy installation. I hot glued it which worked for a bit and then broke the foot altogether. Searching for a cheap alternative I found my piping foot to work perfectly. I moved my needle position until it stitched right in the crease and had the nicest looking zipper I've ever put in.
